SDP Announces Call for Submissions for All-Trans Comics Anthology

stacked-deckStacked Deck Press has announced a call of submissions for We’s Still Here, an anthology of comics by transgender cartoonists, edited by Tara Avery (co-editor of Alphabet with Jon Macy) and Jeanne Thornton (co-publisher of Instar Books).

“Our goal is to present work 100% conceived and executed by trans artists, showcasing the breadth of themes, genres, and approaches trans people are taking to comics work today. And if you’re a trans person who makes comics (or would like to), we’re definitely interested in seeing what you’ve got to offer. If you’re a cartoonist who identifies as trans, we definitely would like to consider running work from you!”

Their starting page rate is $20, but it will go higher depending on Kickstarter funding results. For more information, see SDP Announces All-Trans Comic Anthology.

Call for Submissions for Non-Imperialist SF Anthology

ENOUGH SPACE FOR EVERYONE ELSE is an upcoming science fiction anthology looking for comics, prose, and illustrations. The theme is non-imperialist science fiction, which means:

“No expanding, maintaining, defending, fighting, or being part of an empire…. Space must be featured as an essential element, something without which the story cannot function. All subgenres and tones are acceptable but submissions should be created with an all-ages readership in mind.”

Maximum length for a comic submission is 15 pages (with 10 or under preferred), illustrations should be a single page (or a two-page spread), and prose should be 5 pages or less (no more than 2000 words). Even if you don’t have an artist lined-up for your comic, you can submit the script to them and they’ll see about connecting you with an artist.

The anthology pays:

  • $50 USD per page for comics pages
  • 6 US cents per word for prose
  • $75 for single-page illustrations
  • $150 for double-page illustrations

Deadline for all submissions is May 4th. For more information, visit the Enough Space for Everyone Else submission guidelines.

Arcana's Howard Lovecraft Kickstarter

We at Cloudscape always like to keep an eye on what fellow local comic creators are up to. Arcana is a Vancouver-based comics company that has published a wide variety of stuff. They currently have a Kickstarter for Howard & the Three Kingdoms, a hardcover book collecting three graphic novels: Howard Lovecraft & the Frozen Kingdom, Howard Lovecraft & the Undersea Kingdom, and Howard Lovecraft & the Kingdom of Madness. These books chronicle the adventures of a young H. P. Lovecraft as he encounters a wide variety of monstrous forces akin to what he would later write about. There’s only 4 days left in the Kickstarter, so if you want to get a copy of the hardcover collection or any other related goodies, stop by:

Call for Submissions: The Chinese Students Soccer Club Project

Chinese Soccer Club

There’s a new call for comic submissions that focuses on a intriguing element of local history. The Chinese Students Soccer Team of the 1920s and 30s played in soccer leagues all over Greater Vancouver despite the racism towards Chinese-Canadians that was sadly prominent at the time. If you like period pieces, and are interested in contributing to a multi-cultural project that explores an important part of Vancouver history, visit the Chinese Students Soccer Club Project on Facebook or contact them directly at [email protected]
