Inside Vancouver: Cloudscape teaching comics

Cloudscape helping kids to create comics.

Inside Vancouver featured an interesting article on the Vancouver field house residency program, the city making park field houses available for artist collectives, with a big focus on Cloudscape: “Did you know that you can learn about the basics of comics drawing or traditional Aboriginal weaving after, say, a game of Frisbee or a picnic with friends in a Vancouver city park?”

Cloudscape Members Participate in Early Voting for the Board of Directors

The Cloudscape Comics Society has many faces – we publish anthologies, help local artists network and participate in comic events, and support the community in their comic-making endeavours. The part of Cloudscape that members are most familiar with is the social joy of meeting at the Grind Gallery and Cafe every Wednesday. Cloudscape began in earnest while meeting there, and has blossomed into a fully fledged society of over 60 members. Tonight Cloudscape members flooded the Grind to participate in the early voting of the Society’s first call for new directors, expanding the board from 3 to 5 total members.

The new positions up for election are the Treasurer and Ad Hoc Director. Four members have put their names forward in this exciting race to help grow the organisation. I had the opportunity to chat with the candidates and read their platforms, and they offer an exciting and bright look into Cloudscape’s future.

The Comics Support Group

Cloudscape is about more than just publishing. We are also about supporting any and all local comics endeavors. To that end we are posting this on behalf of the amazing Sydney More and Professor Trevor Code and their fantastic Comics Support Group. The comics support group is providing writing and drawing sessions to help up and coming artists refine their talents, check them out! These meetings are separate from Cloudscape, and our Wednesday Workshops, but I gather they are loads of fun.

Hello Everybody;
It’s almost that time again – the Comics Support Group will be meeting at the Wallflower Cafe on Main st, this Sunday August 15 from 3 to 6 pm. We will be discussing elements of the anthology, and covering issues like character design, story arc, etc. . . .
Bring anything comic-related that you’d like to talk about and your preferred mark-making tools for comic jams.
Hope to see you there!
